Because those spy stories, whether they are in books or in the movies, have lots of imaginative gadgets and tools. Below you’ll find ideas for creating a spy gadget and writing (or acting out) a spy story. You’ll also find links to writing in secret code and making a periscope.

Spy Kids’ Craft

Provide kids with recyclable materials, which not only give another use to items before they are recycled but also keep the cost of this project low. If you are doing this project at a birthday party, ask party goers to bring along some of the following items.

This craft doesn’t have a specific set of steps because kids can use their creativity to make their spy gadget look however they would like it to look. Provide kids with an assortment of supplies: small boxes, cardboard, string or yarn, paper towel tubes, drinking straws, construction paper, etc. Paper fasteners, buttons, and other small items can be used for the controls. Have available things like pencils and pens, crayons or markers, scissors, and white glue.
