Fre Card Games

Use an old game to make a unique Valentine’s gift with a memorable message for your significant other. Tell him how you feel with a memento he can prop on his desk at work or nightstand at home. Browse the thrift store for old games and then let your imagination run wild (remember photos are always a great way to personalize something). Here are some ideas to get you started.

Game Transformations

  • The red and black squares of a checkerboard make an obvious choice for Valentine’s Day. Use a checkerboard to make a collage that lets him know that he is King in your life. See Figure 1 for an example.
  • An old Scrabble board can be personalized with photos and a selection of meaningful words. See Figure 2 for an example.
  • Go crazy with a bunch of old photos of the two of you and of special events in your life together. Use a Connect Four game to make a unique and fun picture frame for the images. See Figure 3 for an example.
  • Transform an old game of Life with appropriate images from your life together. Customize some of the cards with personal messages (glue a pocket to the front of the board to hold the customized cards).
  • Use a Monopoly board to let him know that he has a monopoly on your heart. Let him use the money to buy special gifts or services from you (like the personalized coupon books people give their spouses).
  • Personalize a deck of playing cards with photos of yourself; be as prim or seductive as you desire.
  • Personalize a game of memory with photos of yourself. Use a mixture of prim and seductive photos to keep him looking for the "right combination."

Instructions for Checkerboard Collage

Supplies

  • checkerboard (old boards are especially nice because of the character that wear and tear gives them)
  • checkers
  • a special photo of him or of the two of you together
  • applicable quotes (because a checkerboard is large it is an ideal surface for the lyrics of a special song)
  • playing cards if desired (the king and queen of hearts are a good choice)
  • tongue depressors
  • scissors
  • adhesive

Instructions

  1. Glue at least three tongue depressors (place them perpendicularly across the crease) along the fold on the back of the checkerboard to reinforce it and hold it open.
  2. Arrange photos and quotes on the front of checkerboard.
  3. Glue in place.
  4. Let dry.
  5. Crown him with a checker if desired.
  6. Write a personal message on the back of the board.
